November 5, 2024, Excess Levy Ballot
On November 5, 2024, the Board of Education will ask voters to approve an excess levy. This excess levy would fund student-focused programs and services in five major areas. The levy would be approximately 1/4 of the maximum rate allowed by West Virginia state law, and would be eligible for the vehicle property tax rebate available to West Virginia taxpayers beginning in 2025.
Support for our community schools - $480,000
Possible uses include:
Supplemental funding to provide for full-time nurses at all Roane County schools
Employment and retention of qualified teachers not provided within the State Aid funding formula with the goal to maintain a student-to-staff ratio in K - 3rd Grade classrooms of no more than 20:1
Supplemental funding to provide for full-time counselors at all Roane County schools
Outdoor recreational facility maintenance and improvement
Advanced Coursework, Co-Curricular and Extra-Curricular Activities - $243,500
Possible uses include:
Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses, academic competitions, band, choir, and/or theater
Career and Technical Education programs and student organizations, including but not limited to FFA and FBLA
Athletic programs, including but not limited to cost of equipment, supplies, and transportation
Classroom technology upgrades and replacements
After School and Summer Programs - $125,000
Possible uses include:
Summer programs at all Roane County schools
After school enrichment, tutoring, and related services at all Roane County schools
Safety and Security - $125,000
Possible uses include:
Safety and security enhancements at Roane County schools such as improved cameras and communication systems
Supplemental funding to provide for safety personnel, including but not limited to Prevention Resource or School Resource Officers, pending availability of personnel
Support for our community organizations - $50,000
Possible uses include:
