On November 5, 2024, the Board of Education will ask voters to approve an excess levy. This excess levy would fund student-focused programs and services in five major areas. The levy would be approximately 1/4 of the maximum rate allowed by West Virginia state law, and would be eligible for the vehicle property tax rebate available to West Virginia taxpayers beginning in 2025.

Possible uses include:

• Supplemental funding to provide for full-time nurses at all Roane County schools

• Employment and retention of qualified teachers not provided within the State Aid funding formula with the goal to maintain a student-to-staff ratio in K - 3rd Grade classrooms of no more than 20:1

• Supplemental funding to provide for full-time counselors at all Roane County schools

• Outdoor recreational facility maintenance and improvement

Possible uses include:

• Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses, academic competitions, band, choir, and/or theater

• Career and Technical Education programs and student organizations, including but not limited to FFA and FBLA

• Athletic programs, including but not limited to cost of equipment, supplies, and transportation

• Classroom technology upgrades and replacements

Possible uses include:

• Summer programs at all Roane County schools

• After school enrichment, tutoring, and related services at all Roane County schools

Possible uses include:

• Safety and security enhancements at Roane County schools such as improved cameras and communication systems

• Supplemental funding to provide for safety personnel, including but not limited to Prevention Resource or School Resource Officers, pending availability of personnel

Possible uses include:

• WVU Extension Service

• Roane County Public Libraries
