Attention Seniors & Parents We are quickly approaching many deadlines for Seniors. The PROMISE Scholarship deadline is March 1st. The deadline for the Higher Education grant and Invents grant is April 15th. All of these scholarships require that the FAFSA is also submitted by the deadline. The Roane County Scholarship Foundation application is due on March 2nd. Additional scholarship information can be found on the Senior Schoology group. The school counselors update this page regularly with all scholarship information sent to the school. We hope that you choose to take advantage of these opportunities!

2023 WV Disability History Essay Contest Winners Announced Institute, WV – The WV Disability History Essay Contest committee is proud to announce the winners of the 2023 Disability History Essay Contest in West Virginia. This contest was designed to reinforce Disability History Week in WV and to provide high school seniors an opportunity to showcase their writing skills and knowledge of the Disability Rights Movement. Entries were received from high school seniors throughout West Virginia and the following were selected to receive the award and corresponding cash prizes: District 1 - First Place - Emma Looney - Roane County High School - $1750 The Disability History Essay Contest is a collaborative effort between the West Virginia Division of Rehabilitation Services (WVDRS), West Virginia Statewide Independent Living Council (WVSILC), and State Rehabilitation Council (SRC), with cooperation from the West Virginia Department of Education. Thank you to the high school principals, teachers and counselors for encouraging their students to participate. Thank you to all of the students who entered. GROUNDS MAINTENANCE SERVICES NEEDED Roane County Schools is currently soliciting bids for grass mowing and trimming at its school and operational campuses for the 2023 calendar year. More details can be found in the linked bid advertisement. Complete bid packages are due to the Board of Education Offices at 813 Capitol Street, Spencer, WV, 25276 by 2:00 pm on Monday, March 6, 2023. The Board reserves the right to reject any or all bids. The WVUSO will be performing at Clay Center in Charleston - along with the Wind Symphony - on a joint concert Sunday February 26 at 2pm. WVUSO’s portion of the concert consists of Tchaikovsky’s symphonic ballade Voyevoda, three of Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, Matt Jackfert’s arrangement of Take Me Home, Country Roads (it is a a fantastic arrangement btw!) and a work by a WVU student Grayson Fisher - a 2020 graduate of Roane County HS - entitled skin. This is a beautiful piece which will be conducted by my graduate assistant Shaun Hancher, who is from Wheeling.

On Wednesday, February 1st, RCHS is holding a FAFSA Completion event from 2:00-6:00. An expert from WVU-P will be present to assist families with the FAFSA. If you do not already have an appointment, you may schedule one by calling an RCHS counselor. Students may stop by Room 5 or message a counselor for a list of items needed for this event. The information can also     be found in the senior packet sent home earlier this school year.

Roane County High School parents and family members. I would like to let you know that report cards are currently being mailed out today (Wed., Jan 11). We also gave a printed copy to all students on Tuesday morning of this week. I invite all parents who are not yet connected, to join Schoology. The Schoology parent site is the best and most accurate way to not only see grades that are updated in real time, but the best way to communicate with teachers. Call the school and ask for the Schoology log in. In closing, as I say every morning... It’s a GREAT day to be a RAIDER, so let’s have a GREAT DAY!

PARENTS / GRUARDIANS - RCHS welcomes its students back on Tuesday, Jan. 3 for the first day of the second semester. We all will do what we can to help the students be successful in the classroom. -After School Tutoring will pick back up on Tuesday, Jan 10. Sessions run from 3:45 - 4:45 -SCHOOLOGY - the on line platform that all can use. If you need a parent code, please contact one of your child's teachers

Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. - IN CONCERT

On Saturday, Dec. 10, beginning at 10:30, Roane County High School will be hosting a reception for the new inductees to the Roune County Sports Hall of Fame. At the lunch intermission of the Garry Bender Raider Cup Wrestling Tournament (approximately 12:00), we will introduce the newest members to those in attendance of the tournament. If you are a current member of the Sports Hall of Fame and want to be on hand to show your support for the new class, feel free to attend the reception in the library. Those who attend the reception will be able to watch the tournament at no cost. If it is possible, please contact the RCHS Principal to confirm your attendance at the reception. Parent / Teacher Conferences

Hello, this is Mr. Epling, Principal of Roane County High School, hoping that your Thanksgiving break is continuing to be positive for you and your family. Another reason for this call is to let everyone know that we are having a Parent/Teacher conference and Family Engagement night on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Between 5 and 7 PM, parents are invited to meet their child’s teachers to gain valuable information about academic progress. Roane County Family Health Care and Westbrook Health will also be in attendance with important information for families. Any student who attends with a parent will be entered for door prizes, including a Samsung Smart TV. Interested parents and guardians are invited to reach out to teachers via Schoology or email to arrange a meeting time. I appreciate your time over this busy break, in closing let me say.... AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING - RCHS will continue its after school tutoring when we return from Thanksgiving break. The activity bus continues to leave RCHS at 6:30 in the evenings, so if a student does not have a ride home, the activity bus could be an option. RCHS teachers want to assist students in being more successful in the classrooms. See the attached document.

How about some GIVE and TAKE this weekend ? You can GIVE to goodwill - donation trailer is set up beside the greenhouse. Donate items you feel would be helpful to others through Goodwill Industries (see attached flier). This weekend (Thursday evening - Sunday afternoon) would be the perfect time. Perhaps on the way to Friday night's football game where you can watch the Raiders TAKE the ballgame from North Marion . This is a good opportunity to help RCHS help others.

SCHOOLOGY PARENT CODE - We have found that some parents have mistakenly created a parent account by using their children's credentials. We are sure this was done by mistake due to incorrect info . It is important that the parent account be an actual "Parent Account". If you contact your teachers or school administration, we can get you the proper code and info that will allow you to create a Schoology Parent Account.
