We invite all Spencer Middle School parents, guardians, and families to join us for our upcoming Title I PAC Meeting!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are making some changes to our expectations regarding fidget toys at Spencer Middle School. We understand that some students benefit from having an appropriate fidget to help with focus and self-regulation. We want to allow students to have these tools while also making sure they do not become a distraction or create a safety concern.
Beginning immediately, students may bring one fidget toy to school as long as it meets the following guidelines:
• The fidget must be approximately the size of the student’s hand or smaller.
• Students may have no more than one fidget.
• Fidgets may not contain gel, liquid, beans, beads, or other loose materials. This includes Nedohs, dumplings, and other squishy-type fidgets.
• The teacher will have discretion as to whether the fidget may be used in their classroom.
• Fidgets are to be used only for their intended purpose. If a student uses the fidget as a toy, throws it, distracts others with it, or uses it for something other than a fidget, the student will be asked to place it in their locker. The fidget will not be permitted back out during the school day.
• Fidgets will not be permitted during lunch or recess.
We appreciate your help in talking with your child about these expectations. Our goal is to provide students with appropriate tools when they are helpful while maintaining a safe, focused, and productive learning environment for all students.
