STATE CHAMP x2 This weekend, RCHS junior Lane Watson won his second state championship -- in his second sport! Watson placed first in his weight class at the 2024 WVSSAC State Wrestling Tournament. Last year, he won the 300m hurdles for Class AA at the 2023 State Track Meet.
Due to continuing weather conditions, Roane County Schools will be dismissing early today, with Roane County High School and Spencer area schools dismissing at approximately 11:30 am and Geary and Walton dismissing as buses arrive.

With a winter storm warning and state of emergency coming into effect, Roane County Schools will be observing a non-traditional instructional (NTI) day tomorrow, Friday, January 19, 2024.
Students do not attend school in-person on an NTI day.
An NTI day is one in which our teachers provide lessons to students while they are at home via online or other resources. All students should have been provided with information on how to access these lessons today at school.
Roane County Schools will be operating on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, January 18, 2024.
If a bus cannot make all of its usual stops due to conditions on select secondary roads, affected students will be marked as excused.

Roane County Schools is thrilled to share that the Appalachian Vision Outreach Program will provide a Free Eye Screening/Exam at Spencer Middle School on Thursday, January 25th, 2024. Due to limited spacing nurses may conduct screenings to see what individuals may need eye exams. Subsequently, information will be provided to those students who have been identified as needing further attention. Additional details will be sent home with students in the near future. Applications for the Roane County Virtual School program are now open until January 9th, 2024 at 4PM. Virtual classes are scheduled to commence on January 10th, 2024.
To enroll your student in the Roane County Virtual School program, please complete the application form linked below.
Important Reminder: If students are currently attending in-person classes, they must continue to do so until the official switch to virtual learning on January 10, 2024. Any absences during this period will still be counted against the student until they transition to virtual schooling.
Families can expect to receive an email to their student's Office Outlook account stating whether their child has been approved for virtual schooling.

Construction of the new Spencer Middle School is entering the home stretch with its side parking and roadway taking shape in recent weeks. More work will be done over the holiday breaks to bring the expanded bus loop and front parking lot into shape.
Roane County teachers worked with K-5 Literacy Coach Amie Burkholder of Learning Edventures today as we continue to learn more about how the science of reading can help improve literacy instruction.

FALL 2023 / WINTER 2024 LSIC MEETINGS & PUBLIC FORUMS
It's that time of year again - the Board of Education is going on the road to visit each school and meet with its Local School Improvement Council.
The Board will also hold public forums at Walton, Spencer Middle, and Geary after these BOE / LSIC meetings.
All meetings begin at 6 pm.
